Leather- the fashion staple for the season

Leather is ruling and is popular in all four fashion capitals of the world. Not just abroad but even in our own country we are seeing the impact that faux leather, and the wet look patent one is making.  From modern ruffles in bod-con silhouettes to dreamy sheer materials like chiffons and laces,to the sturdy leather, all is ruling the fashion scene abroad as well as in India. So what are you waiting for, go grab your choice of look and be the chic, classy fashionista.

The idea of wearing a leather skirt might be a little daunting though. I’ve long since had a thing for leather. It’s slick, strong and a just a little bit sexy. But most of all whenever you put it on you just feel like you own the world. The only catch is that sometimes is not the easiest fabric to slot into your every day rotation. How to wear a black leather jacket may be obvious. But how do you go about wearing a leather dress during the day? Or pull on a fitted leather pants and still feel casual? So there you go, a few tips on how to carry leather differently each time for various occasions and look sizzling and flawless.
armani-leather3
  • If you are like a  model, tall and slim, then you will anyways look picture perfect while out and about in your leather trousers, tied-up belt and cool red lipstick.
  • You can wear it with a black high neck or crop top depending on the weather.
  • You can also wear spangly knit with sleek leather trews, a slogan clutch and heels for the evenings.
  • And if you are a biker chic then be cool n casual n don on a leather jacket on top of a skinny leather jeans.
  • Pair a leather mini with a striped sweater and lace-up sandal shoes for an elevated everyday look.
  •  Stand out from the crowd by adding an asymmetric element and rocking a bold colour. If you are a curvy woman like me then you would surely appreciate the geometric patterns and prints which anyways make you look slimmer or rather, narrow, since prints definitely conceal. But believe me, I see no point in trying to look slim when you are not , the basic idea is to know and accept your body and still be confident and happy.
armani-leather5
  • I personally preferred an animal print to make it look totally raw with the ankle length boots.
  • You could also add up a frayed denim jacket to go with a pair of leather skinnies or even a skirt and there you go girl, you have an all access pass to the Joan Jett set.
  • A white chiffon shirt/ blouse could also accentuate  up your feminine quotient and you could pair it up with  patent leather stilettos to add the grace.
  • If it’s a night event or a dinner evening, you could pair up a long leather skirt with side slit along with a lace and georgette blouse with some ruffles on the neck and sleeves which are so undeniably feminine and bring out the sensuous aspect of a female’s personality ( ruffles are also big time in this season).
  • I loved the Armani knee length dress in tan brown, it definitely makes you look so classy and fabulous.
armani-leather2
It totally depends on how you wish to look, whether you are the biker chic, sturdy and powerful, or the soft, sophisticated fashionista, the leather is in and, wherever you arrive your aura would be that of a boss, the ruling diva. So Don the look and be the stunner.

Lies to bust this summers for curvy women

Being curvy is an accusation almost like a taboo and not even the hottest celebs could escape the criticism or the label of being curvy, with the criticism and pressure mounting on them to prove it otherwise. But it is high time that most of us realise that beauty or looking hot is not defined on scale and measurements but the way you carry yourself and there is definitely more to good looks than this and also there is more more to life than just being beautiful, good looks are a symphony of a lot many good things in yourself come up together.
There are a litany of supposed rules and regulations when it comes to what curvy girls, like me, are supposed to wear in the holidays. These days, however, I’m proud to take every one of those lies and stick them where the sun don’t shine. So join me on this odyssey in confounding old-fashioned thoughts about dressing my curves in hot weather…

Avoid anything bright and bold prints

Hey c’mon give me a break from just wearing black since it would give me a slimmer look. Oh, umm, black looks so flattering but gone are the days when I would pay a heed to this anymore. Bolder the print, the more attention the outfit draws, the less your oh not so hot body parts will draw.

 Brightn-bold

‘Jumpsuits are a slim girl’s best friend.
If you follow me on Instagram, you will know I absolutely LOVE a jumpsuit, regardless of if I’m ‘supposed’ to wear one or not. Most people would assume that the jumpsuit was designed for the slim Jims of the world, but I on the other hand think that the jumpsuit is probably my favourite piece of clothing; it takes minimal styling, and I feel amazing in it.

‘Short shorts are a no-go.’ OK, so we’ve all seen those babes with the washboard abs parading around in a high-waisted pair of denim shorts. And we have always dismissed the idea of wearing them. Noways in not waiting anymore to wear it when I lose it. This is your time babe, go ahead and wear it all. Probably you can put it with a long front open cape to feel a lil more comfy in those shorts.

‘Don’t invest in a minidress.’ Not sure if you’re feeling brave enough to buy that minidress? Do it. I might not have the most toned pair of legs, but hey! I choose dresses with an A-line skirt. It’s super flattering and is a win situation.

Olympics sportstars – sport to kill yet dressed to thrill

“Fashion doesn’t exist in a vacuum,” says British Vogue’s deputy editor Emily Sheffield. “It’s a part of everyday conversation so Vogue has always focused on a wide variety of personalities: performers, writers, artists, politicians — and sportsmen and women too.” In the run up to the 2016 Olympics games, all the glossy fashion magazines around the world had the sportspersons in the spotlight. Whether portrayed as heroines who have beat the odds, gladiatorial icons decked out in on-trend activewear brands or muscular heartthrobs posing with slinky fashion models, these editorials are a testament to the increasingly interconnected nature of sports and fashion, for the simple reason that these sports people are so inspiring and motivating, they stand tall as the icons of youth, be it for their grit, determination, hard work and skilled showcase of their talent, or for the fashion and style statement that makes them even the biggest of style icons. Whatever a great person does anyways becomes a style and that’s what sports stars are, the Gods/Goddesses of the present society. And hence they also are a muse to the fashion magazines apart from what they are anyways applauded for, ie, sports.

These fashion magazines have the potential to capture the resilience of athletic achievement and marry it with powerful imagery of equally ambitious sartorial prowess. Although there are umpteen no. of sports but when it comes to sports fashion then these sports here have a fashion quotient unparalleled to any other sports.

Dressage is one of those Olympic sports that is legacy stuff, like archery, or the hammer, that sneaked into the Games at some point and hasn’t quite been thrown out—although dressage has come closer than most. It found a new chapter with the individual freestyle, a more expressive, interpretive event that projected the riders more as performers, creative artists in the gymnastics tradition. It’s a sport when the horse almost performs ballet like movements and rotates on the same point, pirouette.“The correctly piaffing horse”, de la Guérinière wrote, “stands in awe of the rider’s hand and legs.

Olympics-sportstars3

Olympics-sportstars2

Olympics-sportstars1

As this sport sounds so exotic, it also is to be followed for its fashion and style statement, for its regal touch and elegance involved in all equestrian sports alike. Even within the expensive world of equestrian sport, dressage stands apart for the aristocracy of its ideals and the wealth of its participants. We all are particularly impressed with the Britain’s own queen of the refined, impossibly mannered world of piaffe and trot and pirouette, Charlotte Dujardin, whose relationship with her broody horse Valegro is arguably one of the great love stories of this Olympics. Charlotte Dujardin, a thirty-one-year-old British rider who is the European, World, and Olympic dressage champion is my muse for the most pompous  sport and the aristocratic sportsperson. She is the defending champion this time in individual dressage.

The other sport that draws the attention for its shimmer and shine when it comes to fashion is     Gymnastics.

Olympics-sportstars8

Olympics-sportstars7

Olympics-sportstars6

Olympics-sportstars5

Olympics-sportstars4

When the women’s gymnastics team marches into the arena in Rio to compete at the Olympics in August, all eyes are on them. This is due, in part, to the fact that gymnastics  happen to be one of the most stylish sport, highlighting the feminine form and art, and accentuating strength and elegance at the same time in the fluidity of the graceful and skilled movements; But another reason is that they are decked out in the shiniest and trendy leotards. The jewel-toned leotards in deep pink, red, and purple and the various hues and colours were  adorned with anywhere from 3,500 to 4,000 crystals for the US team. Leotards didn’t always look this way. Back in the ’30s and ’40s, during the earliest years of women’s gymnastics, leotards looked like : the leg lines were low and boxy. The lower half offered maximum butt coverage. All that was missing was a little skirt and a cap to make it into a beachwear. But over all these years the fashion in sports has evolved tremendously so far. It has become stretchier to allow for a greater range of motion and sleeker, to accommodate the gymnasts’ increasingly muscular bodies. The cuts, to a modern eye, look dramatically different: the high cut gives the impression  of longer legs of the gymnasts. The invasion of bling has added extreme fashion to the leotards. In the past few decades it was about patriotism, but now the gymnasts leotards are designed in all kind of colours; they need not be sticking to the colour of flag. A lot of details goes into designing leotards says McKeown and Marta Karolyi, who is currently the national team coordinator for the US. McKeown, executive vice president of design and corporate relations at GK Elite, the other major leotard manufacturer in the gymnastics game believes that all of the little details help make the gymnasts feel special. “When you think about the psyche of a teenage girl—and a lot of them are either teenagers or just into their early twenties—it’s like showing up to the prom,” she says. “You don’t want to look like another person. You want to feel special. You want to look beautiful. It all plays into how you feel, and how you feel affects how you perform.”

So not only the fashion invasion but also the movements in gymnastics have seen a sea change in terms of evolution from dance to highly skilled movements. The early gymnasts did not do much more in terms of acrobatic than a walkover etc. So the stretch that goes in nowadays in the performance needs the fabric to be such that it allows that kind of fluidity in the movements.

There are other sports as well which highlight the kind of work goes into designing the apparels also. I particularly love the tennis fashion too, apart from the beach volleyball.

A lot of fashion brands are responsible for the design of the official Olympic team of their countries, such as Lacoste for France, Stella McCartney for UK and Ralph Lauren for the US. Hermès, for example, is the official sponsor of the Brazilian equestrian team.

Many a critics have been of the opinion that  fashion is  just objectifying male or female body, but we see it is all about our perception; rather it could also be awe inspiring, motivating and content oriented, celebrating the grit, determination and the unimaginable potentialities of human form and body.

The Nine Yards Romance

Come September  and our ‘shopping needs ‘ seem to take a detour .In India this marks the beginning of festivities to come. Some of us welcome Ganesha home, while others begin the preparation for Dussehra and Diwali. With just a nip in the air and an occasional  cracker ,I have no perfect words to describe this  but  to call it the ‘Dilliwali Feel’.

I have a cascade of memories associated with this season -of house cleaning, wafting aromas  from the kitchen, to family rendezvous’.

Amongst all this one thing is a constant  ,the ever present need for the sari. Over the years, I have come to realize that each women is indeed unique, beautiful in her own delicate way . While some of us stand elegant in a traditional sari others enjoy the drama  to the  hilt.

Banarasi sari. A Banarasi sari is a sari made in Varanasi, a city which is also called Benares or Banaras. The sarees are among the finest sarees in India and are known for their gold and silver brocade or zari, fine silk and opulent embroidery. The gentle  femininity  of this sari is beyond compare.

The Net or lace sari -For the more modern of heart ,the net sari beckons. There is something about the romance of this sari that charms our heart. If you have your heart set on one, Arab street in Singapore is the best place to indulge. Designers from all over the world sell sarees here. The array of fabrics ,be it vintage lace , fine net or chandelle lace  all enthrall the heart. In Bangalore ‘Mysore Silk Udyog’ commercial street is  a great  place  to make a pick.

So ladies enjoy shopping -wish you all a safe and fun filled and joyous season

Fashion designer  Anamika Khanna impressed everyone at the FDCI India Couture Week (ICW) 2016 with her new collection titled — When Time Stood Still.

And it did stand still at The Leela Palace ,  for some time when models started walking on the runway in impressive ensembles like embellished lehengas having 3D flowers stitched to it, palazzos, sequined jackets, long trailed anarkali’s to pant sarees — all paired with statement jewellery pieces consisting of precious stones like emerald, diamonds and rubies with a gold base.

Using fabrics like organza and georgette, Khanna collection used a myriad of hues such as white, beige, gold, salmon pink, celadon green, fiery red, black and yellow. The collection also saw a wide use of heavy embellishments, sequined work, hand weaves and intricate work of gold embroidery on the silhouettes.

With popular numbers by legendary singers  Elvis Presley and  Frank Sinatra playing and the runway decked up with trees and real live models — the show left the guests for wanting more.

There never will be a perfect time to chase a dream. Life moves quick and obstacles are abundant- so throw caution to the wind and live a life you’re meant to live. The people playing music or singing a jolly song on every  corner of the streets, the painters colouring  lives with the happy colours, the active n buzzing cafeteria and parlours, the street artist doing shows on every square, the cobbled streets with freshly made maple taffees in a minute, and so much more. Historic Old Québec

Designated a World Heritage treasure by UNESCO, Old Québec is the only walled city north of Mexico. As the cradle of French civilization in North America, it’s a living history lesson with a remarkable mix of architecture, heritage, art, and culture. Old Quebec has a unique European feel and is extraordinarily well preserved after 400 years.

As you stroll on the cobbled streets of this charming quaint town, you would realise that many days are also not enough.

This is my account of the instagrammable spots of this place of boutiques and bistros, of course apart from the historic places we would soon get into.

pallazos-6
pallazos-7
pallazos-8
I don’t usually wear a Pallazo pant since they give no shape or structure to the body, being so fluid n darapey. And to carry it with a loose blouse or top is a big no-no for anybody unless they have a body of a model, tall and slim. So the only thing that is happening with Pallazos, according to me, is a crop top. Although there might be various ways to wear it but if you wanna look uber cool then this is the look for you.
Pallazos in solid colour give a great look of you wear it along with a crop top or even a tank top.
Pallazos have their merit too, being so fluid, flowing and airy, they are definitely the comfort wear and if u add a glam top they can make for a perfectly feminine evening look.
I have chosen a solid black Pallazo with a side slit and solid blue corset top for the evening and I have gone blue eyes n nude lips to add glamour to the look. Since blue and bold eyes are ruling the ramp so you could go for a bolder look too with more drama to your eyes. I like to tie up a neat high pony to finish the look.

Kingfisher ultra Derby

kingfisher-ultra-derby10

It’s that time of the year again when all the fashionistas and the socialites donned their plumage and stepped out in style and elegance, for the kingfisher ultra Derby 2016 in bangalore. Past few years have seen a great leap in the fashion scene of bangalore. Derby, saw women, almost  in Byronic fashion, the long flowing gowns, the ubiquitous hat or the fascinators, and their characteristic prejudices; while men in their summer suits, linens, the gait of a Darcy. And as the races began the proud horses dashed in elan to conquer the heart of the audience who were unblinkingly glued to the race course.

We all know that fashion comes to its best when it is about derbies. The women seemed to cut a dash with their flamboyance which is so typical of a Derby. The high of meeting the stylistic challenges, of a sporting event which also happens to be a fashion event, in truly regal manner is no less than the cheer of the crowd for the winning ‘Seargent at arms‘. So there you go, here is the must-dos n must- haves n must- follows for this feisty event that can set the race pulsing for all of us as our main concern apart from ” what horse are you betting on” , is  “what are you wearing”, ( honestly for most of us).

The hat– Believe me, if you find wearing a hat funny or uncomfortable before you arrive there, I tell you, you would certainly feel out of place as soon as you step through the gates if you are not wearing a head gear. It almost feels like you have landed up in a wedding in your jeans, totally underdressed. Straw hats definitely make for a comfort wear but for a Derby the hat needs to be embellished, be it with flowers or feathers and it gets flashy as you go up the seating hierarchy. Kate Middleton has brought the fascinators in vogue which are more fussy cousins of hats, wherein the embellishments are on a head band or comb.

Be the poetry of Lord Byron– Dress up as if you are dressing up for an occasion and make it formal, yeah. The long dresses or the middies make it look great too. Though you can make a statement with the seperates or a polished suit too, pair it with a statement clutch and jewellery. Also carrying a tote for your necessaries is not a bad idea though as comfort can’t be overlooked.

Same goes for men, a suit, with bow ties or vibrant printed ties with a hat completes the look. My personal preference are the polo pants which have been in and are here to stay and the waist coat , or a linen jacket for this season in bangalore. Ties or bow ties with any whimsical print or in bright hues are where men can experiment. I like the scarves too to add to the style quotient.

The shoes-For men, keep it formal sticking to the dress code which is usually there for the Derby room, or the Turf club and the trophy room . You can go ahead with the rugged ankle highs if you are planning to go in-fields. The ostentatious looks will always be welcome in a Derby but comfort too goes a long way if you intend to walk that long.

Women,  stilettos are a big no for this kind of an event so let’s not go crazy-high. The chunky block heels or the wedges seem to be a good choice. Always remember the ‘wow’ look should not contribute to ‘ow’ factor for the reason of wrong heels. Similarly the mini skirts are a big no on a day of crowd and kingfisher.

I chose to wear the green dress for the pre Derby brunch  at Taj Westend which was exotic and delicious and came along with lots of spirits( pun intended) making the spirits high. I paired it with a pair of stilettos. And a white pant suit thereafter, with a cape jacket for the Derby. My partner who has love for horses was in his polos and shirt, paired with the waist coat. The love for horses took lucky to the stables too where the horses were getting all geared up for the show before the event. The pat on the back always works the best always and anytime and it can do wonders to these regal, beautiful and handsome people who we call horses.
